Hello there,
I’d like to thank everyone who has been subscribing to EVERLASTING TALES Newsletter daily since I posted its first issue a few weeks ago.
Throughout this issue, I'll introduce you to EVERLASTING TALES and present you with NEWBORN LEGENDS—an introductory solo adventure I published on DMs Guild.
Everlasting Tales
This series of tabletop roleplaying games' chronicles intends to immerse PCs in epic DUNGEONS & DRAGONS’ adventures, binding them to an exciting living environment where morality and deeds may affect their daily routines, as well as changing the course of their journeys.
EVERLASTING TALES’ chronicles are divided into story arcs, composed of a series of adventures to play in-person or online at home, stores, or conventions worldwide.
Supporting a chronicle, game materials will regularly drop on DMs Guild, such as a bimonthly magazine and four adventures between the magazine’s issues.
It is worth mentioning that this content isn’t an organized play program. That said, you can use all official books published for the fifth edition DUNGEONS & DRAGONS to play any content designed for EVERLASTING TALES. In addition, feel free to use materials from other DMs Guild’s authors.
Game Materials
EVERLASTING TALES’ chronicles are composed of the following game materials:
Introductory Quest (code IQ). This adventure introduces PCs to a chronicle's story arc, usually after a key encounter featured in EVERLASTING TALES Magazine’s issue.
Development Quest (code DQ#). These adventures delve deep into a chronicle's story arc after an Introductory Quest.
Arc Conclusion Quest (code ACQ). This kind of adventure concludes a story arc after a series of Development Quests. It is usually designed for online or in-person multitable play, where PCs’ reputation may influence the adventure’s course.
Chronicle Finale Quest (code CFQ). This adventure concludes a chronicle after a series of story arcs filled with Development Quests and Arc Conclusion Quests. It is usually designed for online or in-person multitable play, where PCs’ reputation and findings along the chronicle play a crucial role in its development.
Everlasting Tales Magazine (code ETM#). It provides a series of content for PCs and DMs playing a chronicle. It features key encounters, puzzles, traps, background and subclass options, spells, magic items, rumors, tales, poetry, songs, music, theatrical presentations, tons of tasks, and NPCs to interact with. Each issue also provides tons of maps depicting a series of locations.
Key Encounter (code KE#). Featured on every EVERLASTING TALES Magazine’s issue, it connects PCs to the upcoming adventures, usually an Introductory Quest.
For catalog purposes, these materials have codes indicating the chronicle, arc, and game material they are related to. As an example, Supplies for Wroli’s Rescue has the code TDC-WD-IQ. Blocks indicate, respectively, the chronicle—The Draconic Crux, the story arc—Wildspace Dragons, and the game material—Introductory Quest.
Updated upon each release for DMs, PCs, and designers’ easy reference, the EVERLASTING TALES Catalog has crucial information related to the chronicles’ development and its game materials. In addition, the EVERLASTING TALES Index, also updated upon each release, summarizes locations, NPCs, spells, magic items, tasks, story bonds, etc., featured in game materials.
How Does It Works?
EVERLASTING TALES is based on PCs reputation in the living environment they are part of. Throughout a series of tasks (downtime activities) and adventures, PCs build a reputation for themselves, unlocking awards that may alter their fate.
Featured on every EVERLASTING TALES Magazine, a series of tasks immerse PCs in the current chronicle—they are divided into three ribbons:
Free Tasks (blue ribbon). These introductory tasks are available for free to anyone starting a chronicle’s story arc, granting the first awards PCs need to proceed on their journey.
Chain Tasks (green ribbon). These story-bonded tasks bind PCs to upcoming events, encounters, other tasks, and adventures in case they fulfill certain requirements.
Unique Tasks (red ribbon). These specific tasks bind PCs to their community’s daily activities. They are available to anyone who fulfills certain requirements.
Everlasting Tales Awards
Upon accomplishing tasks or concluding key encounters and adventures, PCs may earn a series of awards that may be a requirement to participate in more tasks, encounters, and even adventures.
Deed. Certain PCs’ actions are so brilliant that they may change the course of further adventures drastically, granting them a Deed Award. It is also a requirement to participate in most tasks.
Morality. In certain adventures, morality can play a role in the course of a chronicle, usually testing PCs’ behavior in crucial situations, which grants them a Morality Award. It is also a requirement to participate in most tasks.
Boon. An ability check or saving throw reroll, free lodging or meal, advantage to an ability check or saving throw are common boons upon accomplishing any task. Although there is no limit to the number of boons a PC can have, they must choose only one before a session begins.
Bond. In addition to directing PCs into further adventures, it may also grant a benefit to be used during a game session. Sometimes it is a requirement to participate in adventures or their specific parts, or even to accomplish tasks. A list of Bond Awards can be found in the EVERLASTING TALES Catalog. There is no limit to the number of bond awards a PC can have once its benefits are just unlocked in specific moments during an adventure.
Downtime. A common award featured on all EVERLASTING TALES’ game materials, it is also a requirement to participate in tasks, in addition to other downtime activities described in D&D core rulebooks.
Gold. Another common award featured on all EVERLASTING TALES’ game materials, in addition to loot found by PCs while adventuring. It is also a requirement to participate in most tasks.
Experience Points. That’s a common award in Dungeon & Dragons games, and despite tasks that don’t award them, key encounters and adventures do. PCs' level, which is measured in experience points, is the main requirement for all tasks, key encounters, and adventures.
Reputation Status
PCs’ deeds and morality rating form their Reputation Status—a crucial element within a living environment, once it affects NPCs’ starting attitude toward PCs.
Newborn Legends
Through the malign influence of the elder elemental eye, a barbarian tribe, previously unknown to Dalesfolk, descended in fury from the highest peaks of the Desertsmouth Mountains to plunder Daggerdale, Shadowdale, and Mistledale.
With the elder elemental eye’s defeat, the barbarians realized that they had been manipulated and decided to ally with the same dales to repair their mistakes, thus giving rise to Kronk Stonearm’s story.
This solo adventure set on Daggerdale, intending to introduce new players to DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, was my second work published on DMs Guild.
